Botox Injections San Diego

Botox provider Abhay Gupta, MD, FACS, knows that years of smiling, frowning, squinting and other facial activities can create unsightly wrinkles and creases on the forehead or around the eyes. The solution for this problem is not to stop smiling. Instead, Dr. Gupta offers expressive patients Botox® to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet in the corners of the eyes, vertical winkles between the eyebrows and horizontal furrows across the forehead.

Botox® is an injectable muscle relaxant that is most effectively used to treat signs of aging in the upper face and neck area. Botox can also be used on areas of the lower face as an adjunct cosmetic treatment. The innovative injectable treatment temporarily suspends muscle movement in the treated area to create a smoother, more youthful appearance with results that last for about four months. Botox can be utilized alone or in combination with other cosmetic surgical and non-surgical treatments. Not only is Botox FDA-approved, safe and beneficial in the treatment of facial wrinkles, but it has proven to be one of the most effective non-surgical treatments available for facial rejuvenation.

Suitable Botox Candidates

Suitable candidates for Botox cosmetic treatment include those who are over the age of 18 and under the age of 65. Suitable Botox candidates would like Dr. Gupta to treat unsightly facial wrinkles, substantial forehead furrows, the pesky frown lines between the eyebrows or bothersome crow’s feet around the eyes.

San Diego Botox Procedure

Botox cosmetic treatment in San Diego by Dr. Gupta takes about 10 minutes and can be completed in a lunch hour. Dr. Gupta injects a small amount of Botox into the wrinkle. Botox is designed to block nerve impulses before they reach facial muscles, thus relaxing them. As underlying muscles relax over the next few days, facial skin begins to look smoother. The aesthetic effects of Botox last about four months. At that time, Botox patients can undergo another treatment.

Recovery

Immediately following Botox treatment, ice will be applied to the injection site(s) to minimize any slight discomfort. Patients can return to work and their usual activities directly after leaving Gupta Plastic Surgery. However, patients should avoid strenuous exercise, laying down flat and putting on makeup for at least four hours after treatment. In addition, patients should not rub the treated area(s) for a minimum of 24 hours following treatment to avoid spreading Botox to unwanted areas.

Botox Risks

Because Dr. Gupta is a highly skilled provider of Botox, the treatment is relatively safe when performed by him. However, rare side effects of Botox include bruising or swelling at the injection site(s), flulike symptoms and headache. If Botox spreads to unintended areas of the face, it may cause drooping eyelids, cockeyed eyebrows, excessive tearing, dry eye or a crooked smile.

Botox patients should carefully follow the instructions given to them by Dr. Gupta to expedite recovery and lessen the risk of unwanted side effects.
