Clearing Up Common Misconceptions About Facial Rejuvenation

The Internet can be both a blessing and a curse. Thanks to it, we have a world of information at our fingertips. Unfortunately, not all of that information is accurate.

When it comes to plastic surgery (and facial rejuvenation in particular), there is a lot of misinformation circulating that can confuse or even mislead consumers.

Dr. Abhay Gupta is committed to helping you feel informed about your cosmetic treatment options. He wants you to have the facts you need to make educated decisions about your treatment. Read on as he clears up some of the common misconceptions about facial rejuvenation.

“I will look frozen or artificial after facial plastic surgery.”

One of the biggest misconceptions about facial rejuvenation is that it will leave you looking artificial, frozen or perpetually surprised. As long as you select a board-certified plastic surgeon with plenty of experience performing facial procedures and are candid about your expectations, you do not have to worry about looking frozen or artificial after surgery.

“The recovery will be too long or uncomfortable.”

With today’s techniques and technology, recovery is quicker and smoother than ever. You will be able to resume work and most of your daily routines more quickly than patients did in the past.

“Facial rejuvenation is only for women.”

Men and women both experience facial aging; men that are concerned about the effects of the aging process can see tremendous benefit from facial rejuvenation. Surgical procedures like facelift and eyelid lift — as well as non-surgical procedures like Botox injections and laser treatments — can turn back the clock and give men the confidence they need in their professional and social lives.

“I will have terrible scarring.”

There will be scarring whenever an incision is made in the skin. However, skilled plastic surgeons like Dr. Gupta are strategic in the way they plan and make the incisions, so that the scars are as discreet as possible. Also, the scars should fade over time with the proper care.

“Botox and fillers can deliver the same results as a surgical procedure.”

While fillers and Botox can address some of the signs of aging, they are not a substitute for facelift or other surgical procedures. Neither type of product treats loose skin or fat displacement that can occur with facial aging.

Fun Fact of the Month: December gets its name from the Latin word “decem,” which means “ten.” In the oldest Roman calendar, the year started in March, making December the tenth month.
